Dr. Eugene Wilson
Dr. Eugene Wilson, the owner of Dowagiac Animal Hospital, comes from a long line of cattle farmers and dairy farmers, but is from the first generation not raised on the farm. He was drawn to the world of medicine his whole life and not only loves animals, but is intrigued by them.
Dr. Wilson attended Michigan State University’s College of Veterinary Medicine and worked in Benton Harbor, Michigan his first two years out of school. From there, he went to a small animal practice in South Bend, Indiana. He has also worked at the Potawatomi Zoo and the University of Notre Dame. He owned his first practice in the Detroit area, but then he felt drawn back to Western Michigan. He opened a practice in Holland and lived in the little town of Hamilton. He likes a lot of the things the big city has to offer, but is most at home in a small town.
Dr. Wilson’s special interests include cooking, gardening, and landscaping. He loves music of all kinds, building and fixing things, and most of all, being with people.
“I am still fascinated by the world of medicine and what we can do to make our pets’ lives better and longer,” says Dr. Wilson, “and a tail wag or purr still gets me every time.”
Melissa
Melissa has been an I.T. Manager at Dowagiac Animal Hospital and has quickly become a valued member of our team. She loves helping animals feel safe and comfortable while providing compassionate care to every patient. Outside of work, Melissa enjoys spending time with her two children and her three pets—Maverick, Pepper, and Goose. In her free time, you’ll often find her building LEGO sets, putting together puzzles, or taking walks. She’s a proud dog lover, dreams of owning a Highland cow someday, and has a special admiration for dolphins. As a Harry Potter fan, Melissa brings both kindness and a fun personality to our clinic every day.
Jaylynn
Jaylynn is the Office Manager and she is part of the Dowagiac Animal Hospital team. She enjoys working with both cats and dogs and loves helping pets feel comfortable while supporting their owners throughout each visit. At home, she has two dogs, Honey, a Corgi/German Shepherd mix, and George, a Catahoula/Australian Shepherd mix. Outside of the clinic, Jaylynn enjoys spending time outdoors, exploring flea markets and farmers markets, and making memories with family and friends. She’s a dedicated dog person, loves fennec foxes, dreams of owning a koala, and describes herself as compassionate, hardworking, and outgoing.
Jade
Jade has been a Veterinary Assistant at Dowagiac Animal Hospital and is passionate about providing compassionate care to every patient she meets. She shares her home with three beloved pets: Lily the cat, Goose the dog, and Mushu the bearded dragon. Outside of the clinic, Jade enjoys hiking, reading, spending time with her family, thrifting, and baking. She loves both dogs and cats, has a special appreciation for sloth bears, and dreams of owning a wallaby someday. Her favorite part of working in veterinary medicine is caring for animals, and she especially enjoys meeting puppies and kittens during their visits. Jade describes herself as empathetic, determined, and passionate, qualities that shine through in the care she provides to every pet and their family.
Heather
Heather has been a Veterinary Technician at Dowagiac Animal Hospital for two years and especially enjoys surgery and diagnostic appointments. Outside of the clinic, Heather is a proud mom of two and has five pets of her own—two dogs and three cats. Her son is a Union Electrician, and her daughter is a women’s lacrosse coach specializing in strength and conditioning. If she could own any animal in the world, Heather would choose an African elephant. She enjoys being part of the Dowagiac Animal Hospital team and helping provide compassionate care to every patient she meets.
