Dr. Eugene Wilson
Dr. Eugene Wilson, the owner of Dowagiac Animal Hospital, comes from a long line of cattle and dairy-men, but is from the first generation not raised on the farm. He was drawn to the world of medicine his whole life and not only loves animals, but is intrigued by them.
Dr. Wilson attended Michigan State University’s College of Veterinary Medicine and worked in Benton Harbor, Michigan his first two years out of school. From there, he went to a small animal practice in South Bend, Indiana. He has also worked at the Potawatomi Zoo and Notre Dame University. He owned his first practice in the Detroit area, but then he felt drawn back to Western Michigan. He opened a practice in Holland and lived in the little town of Hamilton. He likes a lot of the things the big city has to offer, but is most at home in a small town.
Dr. Wilson’s special interests include cooking, gardening, and landscaping. He loves music of all kinds, building and fixing things, and most of all, being with people.
In 2011, the Butts brothers decided to sell and a mutual acquaintance suggested that Dr. Wilson look into the possibility, and the rest is history.
“I am still fascinated by the world of medicine and what we can do to make our pets lives better and longer,” says Dr. Wilson, “and a tail wag or purr still gets me every time.”

Michelle is the Practice Manager here at the clinic! She lives in Decatur, Michigan with her husband and their five dogs and one cat. From a young age, she knew she wanted to work with animals, though it wasn’t until five years ago that she finally decided to go back to school to get her degree. She graduated from Brown Mackie College with her Associates of Science in Veterinary Technology in July 2013.
Prior to coming to the Dowagiac Animal Hospital (ten years ago this past April), Michelle worked in human healthcare as a Certified Nursing Assistant. She jokes saying she has always had a soft spot for animals and old people.
Michelle enjoys quiet nights around a bonfire, but also the chaos of rock music concerts.
“When you love what you do, you will never work a day in your life” and that is just it, she says! “Though there are days I just want to pull my hair out, being able to say that I love what I do and seeing all

Kelly is a receptionist here at the clinic! She just came to us a couple months ago and we couldn’t be happier to have her on our team!
Kelly is new to the area, having just moved here from Detroit. She, her boyfriend, and their fur baby kitty, Penelope, now live in Coloma.
While Kelly is from a big city, she already loves everything a small town has to offer. Before coming to the Dowagiac Animal Hospital, she worked in the credit card processing industry. Kelly has always had a love for animals and wanted to find a job where she could work with them. In her spare time, she loves spending time with her friends and family, and of course her baby Penelope. Kelly loves reading, being out on the lake, listening to music, and traveling. Kelly is excited for her future here at the Dowagiac Animal Hospital, and we look forward to seeing her grow!
